Built From the Gemfields Up

The Sapphire Sanctuary grew from an understanding that there is far more to a sapphire than the finished stone. Before it reaches a jeweller, collector, or customer, there is a journey that begins in the ground, with miners, machinery, knowledge, persistence, and the challenge of recognising the potential within a rough stone.

Nigel Moneteith created The Sapphire Sanctuary to bring those different parts of the journey closer together. His work spans the practical side of sapphire mining, including helping miners optimise and maintain machinery, as well as assessing rough sapphires and helping connect recovered stones with potential pathways to market.  

That same knowledge extends beyond the mine. The Sapphire Sanctuary helps facetors access rough sapphires without having to mine them, gives jewellers and gem buyers a more direct way to discover natural sapphires, and connects customers with jewellery whose story begins long before the finished piece.
